New Year’s Resolutions

This morning my yoga instructor noted that January is a horrible time to make a resolution. It’s the middle of winter (um, it’s frickin’ cold out there!) and the daylight hours are short! Who’s idea was this to be the time we try new things and battle our bad habits?

This is probably part of the reason that most of us will fail at our New Year’s Resolutions. Maybe the dead of winter just isn’t the best time to try and change ourselves. Maybe we should take this time instead for relaxation, recovery and reflection. Maybe it’s a good time to take stock of where we are and wallow in our bad habits and big stomachs.

So does this mean that we shouldn’t make any changes? No way! But I think there’s a better time to do it. My yoga instructor made a good point that springtime is a better time for making changes in your life. It’s the time of new beginnings, good weather, and endless possibilities.

So let’s all wait until spring.

Yeah, sounds good to me.
